A visit to Cambodia will never be complete without stopping by at the kingdom’s majestic temples. In the country you can find hundreds of persevered temples from thousands of years ago, showcasing Cambodia’s rich history. However, unknown to many, the Angkorian monuments doesn’t actually stop within the confines of the Angkor Complex. A couple of hours from the heart of Siem Reap, you will find the Preah Vihear Province -- home of the majestic Prasat Preah Vihear. Located on the border of Cambodia and Thailand, this sleepy province will definitely take your breath away with its unconventional destinations.
Head to the mountains and visit the overlooked UNESCO Heritage destination, the Prasat Preah Vihear. Sitting atop the mountain, the temple overlooks Cambodia, making it one of the most dramatically situated Angkor Monument. You can also head to the Koh Ker Temple located nearby.
Want a little bit of nature in your trip? Visit the Kulen Prumep Wildlife Sanctuary and spot tons of endangered animals that are being kept alive in this little oasis. This is also one of the last places where you will see Cambodia's national bird, the Giant Ibis. Hiking spots are also available on its premises.
If you want more adventure, you can head to the Preah Khan Kompong Svay, the largest temple enclosure that was constructed during the Angkorian period. They are a couple of hours away from Preah Vihear but we promise that it will be an amazing experience.
Additionally, you can also go on a quick side trip to Preah Nimith Waterfall, just a few kilometers from Preah Vihear. Truly, Cambodia is a country that has it all. History, nature, affordable goods, and amazing nightlife -- you can never go wrong when visiting the kingdom.
