Ratanakiri Province, located in the northeast of Cambodia and bordered by Laos to the north and Vietnam to the east, is a destination less traveled by the ordinary tourist, but undoubtedly a paradise for nature and adventure seekers. Located just a few kilometers from Banlung, you will find the beautiful Lake Yeak Laom, otherwise known as the popular “Crater Lake” in Cambodia. As the name implies, the magnificent lake occupies a 4,000 year old volcanic crater and is nearly perfectly round, filled with crystal clear water. It is surrounded by lush trees and numerous species of exotic birds, and the temperature in the lake is perfect for swimming. At only a small fee of 6,000 riel (roughly $1.50) and bungalows for food and beer available throughout the area, a visit to the lake makes the perfect afternoon voyage.
